I just read a touching blog post by Mallikra Chopra about Euna Lee, who along with Laura Ling, have been sentenced to 12 years of hard labor for illegal entry into North Korea. Chopra, whose brother is close friends with Laura Ling, described her recent meeting with Euna Lee’s husband Michael.

“Michael chuckled as he told us about an urgent message he had received from Euna … Euna wanted to make sure that Michael had sent in the registration form for Hana for summer school. Euna had chosen the Korean immersion school for her daughter, but was scared her husband would forget to send in the form!”

Out of the four months Euna Lee and Laura Ling have been held captive so far, they’ve only had contact with the Swedish ambassador, who is their only source of contact,  four times! To know that out of all the messages Euna Lee could have delivered, she gave the “urgent message” of reminding her husband to send in the registration form for her daughter, is so heartfelt. Despite being imprisoned half way across the world, Euna will still be a mom to her daughter, who must be missing her tremendously. Mothers really are something.
