While there is a plethora of talent showing at Lincoln Center’s premiere season, many designers opted to display their collections off-site in more intimate spaces. This season, Vietnamese-born Thuy Diep invited guests to the Audi Forum on Park Avenue for her show.
For spring/summer 2011, Thuy presented wearable separates in a warm color palette.

The summer vibe was very much present at Alexander Berardi’s spring/summer 2011 show, titled “Breathless is a Tribe Called Hamptons.” Inspired by the 1960 Jean-Luc Godard new-wave cinema epic “Breathless” and its star Jean Seberg, the collection captures the mood of restless romance and eclectic chic.
The New York Upper East Sider showed a lineup of very Hamptons-appropriate separates and a few statement dresses. Nautical stripes, safari jackets and short shorts all made the cut and light-flowing fabrics looked perfect for a day at the lawn club.

Captivated by the allure of desert landscapes, Ports 1961 designer Fiona Cibani delivered a mesmerizing collection for spring/summer 2011. Drawing inspiration from the contrasts of jagged geometric forms against the sensuous curves of sand dunes, Cibani showed robust silhouettes that encompassed delicate, fluid shapes in both draped and tailored pieces.

Georges Chakra took things to another level with his Edition collection’s runway show on Sept. 10. Coming from a couture background, the designer raised the bar, showing for the fourth time at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
It was showstopper after showstopper, from short body-hugging cocktail dresses to gorgeous, flowing gowns. Satin fabrics were finished off with sequined or glittered straps. Gradients appeared on many of the designs and an ethereal liquidity was created in a few amazing pieces with fluid metallic shine. Done in liquid lamé jersey, these steel and bronze gowns made …

This season’s Tadashi Shoji presentation was all about silk chiffon. The Japanese designer showed an angelic collection of beautifully draped dresses and gowns.
Neutral tones dominated the lineup, but pastel purple and blue appeared as subtle hints. The collection is very wearable, with cute shorter dresses that complement the floor length formal gowns. Even so, the longer gowns were not over the top. From what Tadashi showed, it appears that the one shoulder style will carry over from this fall to next spring.
