Last night’s 82nd Annual Academy Awards was a pinnacle moment for many, including Kathryn Bigelow, who made history as the first woman to the Best Director Oscar. But besides the many big name winners, it was also a huge night for an eye-opening film, “The Cove,” which won the statue for Best Documentary Feature.
The heart of “The Cove” is an urgent mission to bring awareness of and advocacy for dolphins—a message that can reach an even greater audience now that they have the huge recognition of an Oscar win.

Fashion it-girl and model Alexa Chung has been doing quite well for herself post-MTV, as she has landed her first Vogue cover ever for British Vogue’s March 2010 issue. First off, kudos to Alexa for being able to pull off clogs on her cover shot (albeit they are Chanel leather clogs). Chinese model Kiki Kang (Chinese name: Kang Qian Wen) is getting a lot of buzz as one of the top new models to break out in the fashion industry. KCD casting director Michelle Lee (who’s in charge of picking models for the Marc Jacobs shows) named Kang one of the top fresh faces to appear on the fall 2010 fashion week runways. When I was in middle and high school, everyone took either French, Spanish or Italian classes as a second language. If you were lucky, you went to a school that also offered German, Latin and Japanese. Chinese classes, on the other hand, were simply unheard of. Most Chinese American children had to resort to “Chinese schools” over the weekend, which were organized by private Chinese academies or Chinese parents who wanted their children to learn about their heritage.
