Reuters recently posted this article on “reverse migration,” which says that Asian professionals in the U.S. are starting to “Go East” in order to seek better job opportunities.  As I watch most of my international friends in New York move back to Asia to seek better jobs, I can’t help but wonder, since when did Asia become more of a hot spot than New York City?

Flushing Assemblywoman Grace Meng has proposed a bill that will eliminate the term “Oriental” in state, public and city documents, when used to describe individuals of Asian or Pacific Islander ethnicity.  That’s right, Meng has had enough of the Western ego, and wants to set the record straight.
The bill will replace “Oriental” with the term “Asian.”  Already approved by the assembly, the bill awaits the vote of the New York Senate, which has yet to reconvene.

The New York Times posted an interesting article yesterday, describing how Asian American families, in particular those of Chinese, Indian and Korean descent, still prefer to have sons as opposed to daughters. Statistics show that Asian American families are also more inclined to resort to in vitro fertilization or abortion if they find out they will be having a daughter instead of son.
