—It looks like formerly imprisoned journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee are following the trend of earning a book deal to share (and capitalize on) their experience being held in captivity in North Korea. While Laura is still shopping around for a book deal that will “examine the meaning of sisterhood and journalistic ideals,” Euna beat her to the punches with a six-figure deal to write a memoir of her imprisonment. For many of us, the plight of North Korean refugees has been an issue unheard of — that is, until the recent Euna Lee and Laura Ling incident, which despite political agendas, helped bring global awareness to the harsh reality of North Korea. Current TV aired a special tribute tonight to their colleagues Laura Ling and Euna Lee, along with a “thank you” message from Laura and Euna, who expressed their gratitude for everyone (besides the Clintons) who supported them during their 140 days held in captivity in North Korea. They acknowledge all of those who sent letters and postcards, held vigils, used social networking sites, and even created blog sites such as “Liberate Laura,” to advocate their quick return home. We just had to post this heartwarming photo of Euna Lee and Laura Ling reuniting with their families after they arrived at Bob Hope Airport today in Burbank, Calif.
