Jasmine Rafael may be following in her brother AJ’s footsteps in the music industry, but she’s also been making a name for herself as a dancer. It’s been a good couple weeks for the Kpop scene in America. Girls’ Generation (also called SNSD, which is the abbreviated version of the group’s Korean name) is one of the top female groups in Korea, which consists of 9 girls, 2 of whom were born in the U.S. They recently debuted their English hit song “The Boys” on two popular American talk shows, Late Show with David Letterman on 1/31 and LIVE! with Kelly on 2/1.

Beloved female superstars the Wonder Girls will be appearing again in American entertainment in the near future. Later this year, they will begin filming for a TeenNick movie temporarily titled “Wonder Girls at the Apollo.” The movie will feature the Wonder Girls in singing/dancing competition against School Gyrls, an all-girl group under Nick Cannon’s entertainment agency. I think this will be interesting to see because of the juxtaposition between an Asian girl group and an American girl group. I wonder if there will be any stylistic differences in their singing …

In early June, the Chinese American rapping trio Model Minority released a song for their newest mixtape, “The Tiger Sons.” Model Minority is made up of veteran emcees Jason “Grandmaster” Chu, Andrew “Inglish” Chu, and David “D-One” Fung. They say “The Tiger Sons” tape was developed “in the hopes of continuing to use music to educate our listeners and friends about the struggles and victories of Asians in America.”
