Inspired to make change in your Asian American community? We welcome you to join the 7th annual New York City Asian American Student Conference this Saturday, April 27 at New York University’s Kimmel Center. This year’s conference is called En Route and will examine the socioeconomic status of Asian Americans along the New York City subway line. Students from various New York City college campuses, including Barnard College, Hunter College, Baruch College, Columbia University, and City College, have collaborated with each other to plan the conference. The audience is highly encouraged to participate in the discussion with the panel of speakers and to think critically about Asian American issues.
This year’s keynote speaker is the award-winning journalist and activist Helen Zia. She has covered social and political movements in the Asian American community for more that 30 years. However, she is most known for her work with civil rights advocacy, including her involvement in the watershed anti-Asian violence Vincent Chin case in the 1980s. Other renowned speakers include comedian Jen Kwok, playwright David Henry Hwang, YouTube executives Phil Chung and Christine Kim, and music sensation Joseph Vincent.
